The EuroQCI Thematic Working Group (ETWG) meeting held in Brussels on November 7-9, 2023, brought together key players in the quantum communication landscape, marking an important momentum for the #EuroQCI initiative. The meeting, organised by the CSA PETRUS project at the premises of the European Commission, aimed at fostering collaboration and generating insights to support the implementation of the EuroQCI initiative.

HellasQCI participation at the ETWG reaffirmed the commitment shown by project partners in building the EuroQCI and shaping the future of quantum communication in Europe. IrelandQCI was represented by Project Coordinator Dr. Deirdre Kilbane. HellasQCI was represented in the working groups by the Coordinator Dr. Ilias Papapastamatiou, GRNET, Technical Coordinator Prof. George Kanellos, NKUA, Homer Papadopoulos, NCSRD and Giannis Giannoulis, ICCS/GRNET.

Outcome and Achievements

The collaborative efforts of all stakeholders showcased a shared commitment to making EuroQCI a reality and helped in making considerable progress towards implementing the EuroQCI initiative.

The momentum gained from this meeting reinforces Greece’s project actions on cyber-resilience and fortifies the security of sensitive data and critical infrastructure.

This project on behalf of Greece, together with other EU Member States, the CSA project PETRUS and the European Commission will achieve the co-creation of the EuroQCI. The HellasQCI project is coordinated by GRNET which operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Digital Governance.

Other participating EU member state representatives were in attendance including Dr. Deirdre Kilbane, IrelandQCI Coordinator and Director of Research at Walton Institute at SETU, who presented an overview of Ireland’s National Quantum Communication Infrastructure. Stakeholders in attendance enjoyed networking as well as a welcome address by Prof. Stefanos Kollias, Chairman of the Board of Directors of GRNET, a presentation on QKD Networks from Ass. Prof. Kanellos NKUA, HellasQCI Technical Coordinator, and an overview of the project and its synergies with EuroQCI by Dr. Ilias Papastamatiou, HellasQCI Project Coordinator of GRNET. Other topics covered across the training event include Cybersecurity and Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC).
