Quantum updates at the Kennedy Summer School STEM event.

IrelandQCI Project Lead Dr Deirdre Kilbane joined President of South East Technological University, Veronica Campbell, to address an inspirational audience of regional secondary students at the fantastic Kennedy Summer School Wexford STEM event in Wexford this week.

180+ students listened as Dr Kilbane spoke about quantum technologies, satellite communications, and the benefits that a quantum communication infrastructure will bring to Irish society, via the IrelandQCI project. Research Ireland’s Ciarán Seoighe and Dr. Aisling McEvoy gave inspirational talks to the fascinated students, who had all come together to celebrate Irish and American culture, politics, history and science. Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science of Ireland James Lawless attended in the afternoon to further address students.

Secondary school students from across Wexford were fascinated to hear all about space, quantum physics, and science from some leading experts in these fields. The centennial year of publication of The Great Gatsby was also marked with a look at the role of the law and society in novels of the 1920s. Schools represented include Good Counsel College, CBS New Ross, Ramsgrange Community School and Our Lady of Lourdes Secondary School.

With thanks to all at the Kennedy Summer School Wexford for the invitation to participate, and wishing all of the fantastic young people great success as they pursue their own interests during their secondary school years, and prepare to become future leaders and experts in their own fields of choice.

The IrelandQCI project ‘Building a National Quantum Communication Infrastructure for Ireland’, is led by Walton Institute at South East Technological University on behalf of CONNECT Centre, co-funded by European Commission and the Irish government’s Department of Culture, Communications and Sport.
