Tomorrow.\,” which explores how science has shaped our past\, present\, and future. The theme highlights the evolution of scientific understanding and its application in areas like sustainability\, health\, and technology. \nThe IrelandQCI Quantum & Answers Trailer is busy on the road for Science Week\, with it’s first engagement yesterday at Maynooth University where it exhibited outside the Science Building. As part of the university’s engagements for Science Week\, students\, researchers and staff were invited to visit the Quantum & Answers Trailer to ‘explore Ireland’s quantum communications future!’ \n🤝 Pictured alongside our quantum experts are Professors Jiri Vala and Peter Coles. Professor Jiri Vala represents Maynooth University as a consortium partner within the IrelandQCI project\, bringing vast experience in quantum and physics to the project.

DESCRIPTION:In mid October\, the IrelandQCI Quantum & Answers Trailer was on the road again\, this time travelling to the stunning Lyrath Estate in Co. Kilkenny\, where it exhibited at the brilliant Cyber Ireland National Conference #CINC 2025.  \nIt was fantastic to engage so many industry stakeholders at this terrific event and participate in the conversation about the role of quantum communications and security in the future in Ireland with stakeholders working within the cyber security space.   \nCINC is Cyber Ireland’s annual flagship cyber security event bringing together 400+ representatives of the cyber security community to an event where senior leaders meet and discuss the cyber security challenges facing industry and Ireland\, learn about innovative solutions and hear from national and international perspectives. IrelandQCI Project Lead and Director of Research Walton Institute SETU Dr Deirdre Kilbane participated in a panel discussion entitled: ‘Quantum Readiness: Is Ireland’s Cyber Sector Prepared?’ and led a team of IrelandQCI researchers on-board the Quantum & Answers Trailer in addressing questions from attendees about the role of quantum communications in the security space.   \nThe IrelandQCI Quantum & Answers Trailer provided delegates the opportunity to hop on-board between speaker sessions\, discuss quantum communication technologies with our experts\, and watch the demonstration of the BB84 cryptography experiment on board.

SUMMARY:Toys4Engineers\, SETU Arena\, Co. Waterford
DESCRIPTION:In October\, the IrelandQCI Quantum & Answers Trailer left the capital once again and travelled south east\, arriving at Carriganore in Co. Waterford on a rainy day for the Toys4Engineers event. This annual exhibition is a stalwart for STEM industries in the south east\, and sees 100+ exhibitors come together to showcase their latest wares\, technologies and products. The quantum trailer was positioned at the entrance of the SETU Arena where attendees engaged the IrelandQCI experts upon arrival to hear about the project\, quantum communication technologies\, and the benefits quantum communication will bring to their sectors in the future.  \nThis exhibition was organised and attended by Waterford Chamber with the support of Engineering the South East\, ENERGIA\, Waterford Chamber Skillnet\, Waterford City & County Councill\, Local Enterprise Offices\, IDA Ireland\, Enterprise Ireland\,  Engineers Ireland\, and Business in the Community.

DESCRIPTION:In September\, we collaborated with the INEX team to bring the IrelandQCI Quantum & Answers Trailer to showcase at their latest INEX Members’ Meeting in Dublin city centre\, where industry stakeholders came together to discuss the latest developments across an array of technological sectors.   \nA particular INEX member company in attendance\, doubles as an industry partner of the IrelandQCI project – ESB Telecoms is proudly part of the IrelandQCI consortium\, and recognises the importance of securing our national infrastructure against cyber threats and embracing the need to be digital and data-driven now and for future generations. ESB Telecoms provides the vital fibre optic backbone for the IrelandQCI project. Senior representatives of ESB Telecoms John Reilly\, Head of Infrastructure\, and Paul Meagher\, Business Development\, attended the INEX meeting and were happy to hop on-board the IrelandQCI Quantum & Answers Trailer! Over 40 other member companies were in attendance including another IrelandQCI consortium partner HEAnet\, who were on hand to support as attendees brought their quantum questions to the IrelandQCI team to be answered throughout the meeting.

DESCRIPTION:In late September\,  the IrelandQCI Quantum & Answers Trailer was front and center at Trinity College Dublin Front Square for a full Friday night\, where members of the public had the opportunity to hop on-board and engage our researchers in celebration of European Researchers’ Night!   \nEuropean Researchers’ Night is a Europe-wide public engagement programme\, dedicated to showcasing the diversity of research and its impact on citizens’ daily lives in fun and inspiring ways.   \nThis was a fantastic event to showcase the IrelandQCI Quantum & Answers Trailer in conjunction with thousands of other inspirational researchers participating internationally on the same night. The general public are a key target audience for the IrelandQCI project\, so our experts welcomed the opportunity to showcase our on-board demonstrations and explain the benefits of quantum communications to society\, in an understandable way.

DESCRIPTION:In July\, the IrelandQCI Quantum & Answers Trailer landed on the beautiful Valentia Island\, Co. Kerry\, as part of The Valentia Lecture 2025: Ireland’s Place in the World of 2040. The event heard key-note speakers discuss a range of perspectives including developments in technology\, science\, media\, politics\, the arts\, history and a deep-dive into the future. Young leaders attended from the worlds of academia\, business\, politics\, government\, arts\, sport and media\, who reflected on the Ireland of today and shared their vision for Ireland in 2040\, as well as its place in a globally interconnected world. The IrelandQCI Quantum & Answers Trailer welcomed these visitors across a full day to explore the quantum communication technology on-board\, and discuss its role in the vision of Ireland in 2040. \nWe were also pleased to welcome Minister Michael Healy-Rae from the Department of Agriculture\, Food and the Marine\, and discuss his interest in Ireland’s quantum future.

DESCRIPTION:The IrelandQCI team enjoyed a fantastic 2 days at this wonderful community event engaging the general public\, sharing their passion and expertise on the benefits of secure quantum communications.\nThe IrelandQCI Quantum and Answers Trailer made a strong impact at this weekend’s Flavours of Fingal festival in Dublin – engaging hundreds of attendees with a hands-on look at secure quantum communications. Through interactive demos and conversations\, we helped demystify quantum technologies and highlighted their growing importance for Ireland’s digital infrastructure and innovation landscape. \nFlavours of Fingal is a community event in Co. Dublin held annually by Fingal County Council\, and the Department of Agriculture. Thousands of attendees come together to enjoy a wholesome festival of music\, culture\, food\, entertainment and education. The IrelandQCI Quantum & Answers Trailer exhibited across both days on 5th + 6th July 2025\, with over 150 visitors making their way to the trailer to curiously speak to the IrelandQCI experts about quantum communications.

DESCRIPTION:29th May 2025 \nTrinity College Dublin’s Front Square was the site of the official launch of IrelandQCI’s Quantum & Answers Trailer\, an innovative mobile engagement unit designed to bring quantum technologies to life for the Irish public. \nThe Irish government was represented by Patrick Neary\, Assistant Secretary – Communications at the Department of the Environment\, Climate and Communications\, the co-funder of the IrelandQCI project\, who was joined by Professor Linda Doyle\, Provost of Trinity College Dublin\, Dr Deirdre Kilbane\, IrelandQCI Project Lead and Director of Research at the Walton Institute\, South East Technological University (SETU)\, John Regan\, Managing Director of ESB Telecoms and IrelandQCI consortium partner and Professor Dan Kilper\, Director at CONNECT Research Ireland Centre for Future Networks. \nA highlight of the project is the IrelandQCI Quantum & Answers Trailer – an interactive mobile unit designed to demystify quantum science. Funded by the European Commission and the Department of the Environment\, Climate and Communications and supported by the CONNECT Research Ireland Centre\, the trailer features hands-on experiments and interactive demonstrations to help the public better understand quantum concepts and their real-world applications. It also aims to inspire future generations to explore careers in science\, technology\, engineering\, and mathematics (STEM). \nFollowing the official launch\, the IrelandQCI Quantum & Answers Trailer remained on display at Trinity College Dublin today engaging students and general public\, with quantum demonstrations taking place on board. The Q & A trailer will now embark on a roadshow tour across the country in the year ahead\, exhibiting at national and regional events including showcasing at schools\, STEM events and industry conferences\, with the objective of educating stakeholders on the benefits of quantum communication technologies.

DESCRIPTION:About this event\nJoin us in Dublin for an exclusive Quantum Communication event this July!\nThis invite-only event is an exclusive opportunity to hear from experts across the quantum communication community\, representing industry and academia\, during a 3 day conference in Dublin\, taking place 1st-3rd July 2024.\nRepresentatives from ‘EuroQCI Industrial and Deploy National’ projects are invited to attend a closed PETRUS meeting at the venue on Monday 1st July\, and stay on in Dublin to join local Irish stakeholders from the quantum industry for a 2 day conference with key stakeholder workshops\, training and continued networking.\n1st July Day 1: PETRUS Workshops (closed meeting)\n2nd July Day 2: Key Stakeholder Meetings\n3rd July Day 3: IrelandQCI Workshops\nAbout IrelandQCI:\nIrelandQCI\, the ‘Building a National Quantum Communication Infrastructure for Ireland’ project incorporates integrating innovative and secure quantum devices and systems into conventional communication infrastructures. This will be done by enhancing the ESB Telecoms’ optical fibre network with an additional layer of security\, all based on quantum physics\, in particular quantum key distribution (QKD).\nTechnology specialists in six universities across Ireland\, are partnering with ESB Telecoms and HEAnet\, and pooling their expertise and resources to add an extra security layer to Ireland’s communications infrastructure and the data it transmits.\nIrelandQCI is one of several projects across the EU which sees the European Commission working with 27 Member States\, as well as the European Space Agency\, towards the deployment of a secure quantum communication infrastructure spanning the EU. The project is co-funded by the European Commission and the Irish government’s Department of the Environment\, Climate and Communications.\nOnly PETRUS representatives from EuroQCI Industrial and Deploy National projects should register for Day 1. Places are limited\, registration is essential.
